Yesterday, Matt and I decided to take our family on a real hike. Not just a glorified walk, but an actual hike up a mountain. It was a lot of fun. We climbed up rock after rock. Lucy and Emma really enjoyed looking for the “blue dots” that marked the path. When we got to the top, Emma said “Wow! We started at sea level, and and ended up at 680ish feet.
Before we descended, Matt said “we could just turn around and go the way we came, or we could do the loop. The loop is a little longer but it isn’t as steep or rocky… much easier for the kids” Famous last words. We decided on the loop. The decent was not only longer, but twice as difficult. We didn’t get any pictures of it, but there were several places where I had one of the girls on my back, holding on for dear life, while I scaled down a rock face. It was actually quite fun. I broke a huge sweat, sang songs with my girls, held hands with my sweetheart, it doesn’t get much better than that. I’ve been hiking with Matt before and I have hated it. Turns out I didn’t hate hiking, I just hated my hiking boots. So I wore my running shoes yesterday and it was great! I can’t wait to go again. And, no lie, my favorite part was the climbing up and down the rocks. It made me want to go mountain climbing.
