Matt and I have always wanted a grandfather clock. Well, Matt’s real into clocks and watches anyway, but we both wanted a grandfather clock. We saw one at the fair last year. After researching the prices, we discovered that the fair prices were really good so decided we would save up to get it in a few years.
Then we went to Mardens. Mardens is a store that sells factory seconds and floor models at a HUGE discount. We were looking at floors the other day and saw that they had a shipment of Howard MIller grandfather clocks. They didn’t have the one we wanted, but they had one that was even better. At 1/4 of the price, which was still less than half of what they were selling at the fair. So we looked at the budget and decided to get it. Matt brought it home last night. And after we set it up, we discovered WHY it was SOOO cheap, it didn’t chime. But not for nothing does Matt spend hours in the basement tinkering with watches. So I had no problem with his taking apart the movement and fixing it. 1/2 hour later, we have a working clock and every 15 minutes we get to hear the great westminster chimes :) Isn’t it beautiful? It’s not a traditional grandfather clock. But we LOVE it and think it looks better than the usual ones. We spent at least 30 minutes just staring at it last night.
