All About Reading Level 2

All About Learning Level 2

Over the last few months I have seen a massive change in my little girl.  Thanks to All About Reading Emma has gone from being an eight year old who couldn’t read to a little girl who wanders around the house with her nose in a book.

Level 2 starts up where level 1 left off and uses the same step by step, line upon line format as all of the All About Learning Press products.  Among other things, level 2 introduces the child to the different kinds of syllables, syllable division which helps them to decipher larger words, and the rules that change the sounds that vowels and other letter combinations make.

Have you ever said “the english language makes no sense”?  (No?  Just me then?)  All About Reading makes sense of what seems like a language with no rhyme or reason to it.

Before every lesson there is a short section for the parent/teacher to read that explains the core of the lesson.

After a short review and a lesson there are fun activities for her to do.

Then comes the fluency practice.  Fluency is my favorite part of All About Reading.  In the fluency exercises they review new words, phrases and then sentences.  Here is where your child learns not just to read the words but to go from one word to another without stopping (a must for reading comprehension).

The lessons alternate between learning new concepts and reading out loud from the readers.  Each lesson with the reader includes a practice sheet introducing some of the new words they will read in the story.

I am SO pleased with the progress Emma has made!  As a mother, my heart breaks when my children struggle to understand something.  Usually with enough repetition and review it will click.  With Emma and reading it just WASN’T happening!  After three years of trying to teach her how to read all she knew were the letter sounds and no matter how hard we tried, she just could not put them together to form words.  I am so grateful to All About Reading for creating a program that is straight forward, thorough, and fun.  It is, hands down the BEST reading program I have used (and I have used a lot of them over those three years).

Just a few months after starting All About Reading Emma is now reading chapter books for fun and is very much looking forward to a little reading contest that she, her sister and I will be having this year.

Thank you so much for sharing. My 6 year old has been struggling with reading and I have been at a loss as to what to do. We have used ABeka for k and 1st and it has been such a challenge and just hasn’t “clicked” for her. The curriculmn was successful with my older son ( age 8) but everything about it has caused my daughter to feel constantly defeated. I hate to see her feel that way about reading. I’ve looked at several different reading curriculms and just was introduced to All about reading and am excited about seeing the reviews. Your review gives me such hope for my daughter. My question is if I should start on level 1 for her. She is reading some, but just thought it might be a good idea to start back with the basics. What would you recommend? Did you start with level 1 or 2 with your daughter?
    Thanks so much!

    1. Hey Rhea, I started with Level 1 and it was perfect. It was easy at first but it didn’t take long to get to the point where she was being challenged.
